Cathedral "Notre-Dame de Luxembourg"
Conductor: Marc Dostert
On the first Sunday of Advent, Notre-Dame Cathedral opens the door to the Advent season: with "Au Seuil de l'Avent", the Maîtrise Sainte-Cécile of the Cathedral and Estro Armonico, conducted by Marc Dostert, invite you to a concert full of musical discoveries.
The concert opens with "The 7 'O' Antiphons" by Latvian composer Andris Sējāns. For centuries, these seven antiphons have marked the final days before Christmas, and many will know them as the basis of the hymn "O come, O come, Emmanuel". Gerald Finzi's "Eclogue" for piano and strings follows, a quiet, lyrical gem of English music, with Tatsiana Molakava as soloist. The programme closes with Steve Dobrogosz's Mass, a work that blends the classical choral tradition with warm, jazz- and pop-tinged harmonies and wins over singers and audiences alike.
A peaceful afternoon to begin Advent in one of the most beautiful spaces in the country.
